Poster Conventions - Black Panther

Black Panther

The 'Black Panther' movie poster uses multiple classic movie poster conventions to attract audiences. I will make an analysis of the films detailed poster conventions, breaking down the different techniques shown:

  • There is clearly a dominant central image indicating the movies genre. Mise-en-scene is displayed; due to futuristic machines and weaponry it clearly defines the film's sci-Fi-action genre.
  • The film's title is the largest text appearing on the poster meaning the title is what will initially catch the audiences eye.
  • The names of the cast acting in the film are displayed across the top of the poster.
  • The production company logo is a large part of the poster, since belonging to the marvel cinematic universe franchise, although their unmistakable red and white logo is not large in size, it has an enormous impact on the audience the poster draws in.
  • There is a tagline below the title in a smaller font stating "long live the king", creating suspense.
  • There is information displayed at the bottom of the poster about the director and publishing company using a billing block.
  • This is a theatrical poster which comes out close to the film's release therefore there is a specific release date.
  • There is a reference to different formats the film is published in.
  • Sound logos are displayed in a smaller font.
