Conventions of trailers - Conclusion
Having looked at a number of different types of trailers from a range of different genres, I now feel feel confident that I understand the conventions and I aim to incorporate these into the different types of trailers that i produce.
What I have noticed is that these conventions are consistent regardless of the genre of movie. What will be interesting will be to see how these conventions are manipulated slightly depending upon the genre.
Below is a list of all conventions of trailers I have found during my initial research:
- Production company logos
- Different editing transitions
- Taglines
- Images from across the entire movie
- A range of different shots
- Dramatic, genre appropriate, music
- Impact sound
- Snippets of dialogue taken from across the movie
- certificate
- Release date
- Social media links and website
- Voice over man
- Sometimes includes names of director/cast
- Critically acclaimed reviews
- Character development of not only the protagonist, but other important characters
- Clear indication of genre
- Director/producers name and/or reference to previous films
- The title of the film
- Credits
- Reference to awards/film festivals
