Poster conventions - Legend

The second film poster I'm looking at is for a British gangster movie and contains some additional conventions not found on the previous poster.

Legend

  • The title of the film, although not being the largest text on the poster, it is the only part of the poster that has colour, being the initial thing that catches the audiences eye.
  • This poster only features a single dominant focal image. This image indicates the genre through mise-en-scene. For example, the style of the double-breasted suit and slick back hair, along with the grainy image, suggests the era of the film is set around the 1960's and belongs tot he gangster genre.
  • This poster is unique since heavily promoting the positive reviews the film has achieved by multiple news outlets, stylishly displaying them across the poster behind the characters, being impossible to miss. There is a review placed in the centre of the poster reading "unmissable...a British classic", which would be one of the things to catch the viewers eye quite quickly.
  • There is a clearly displayed release date on the film, allowing audiences to plan a date to view the movie.
