Teaser trailers - Introduction
Teaser trailers are often between thirty seconds and one and a half minutes in length and are released well in advance of the movie's release, often over a year before the film actually comes out. The purpose of a teaser trailer is to create hype and anticipation, a buzz around the movie that will build momentum over the coming months. Ideally, fans will discuss the movie amongst themselves and will be directed to other forms of marketing such as websites and social media.
Typically teaser trailers are produced, the big-budget Hollywood movies featuring A-list stars or those made by well-renowned directors. Teaser trailers are also produced for films that are part of an existing franchise, those that are based on existing source material (such as novels, comic books, and television shows) or remakes.
