Horror film trailer analysis - Get Out

The fourth trailer I'm looking at is from the 2017 horror film 'Get Out'.

The trailer contains the following conventions typical of the horror genre:
  • The story unfolds in an isolated setting.
  • Loosely framed shots showing vulnerability.
  • High angled shots showing vulnerability.
  • Shots that seem like point of view shots that feel like the characters are being watched.
  • Often horror trailers will begin with equilibrium reflected in the slow pace of the editing and non threatening music (before this is disrupted) halfway through the trailer.
  • Scenes set at night.
  • Low-key lighting.
  • Sinister impact sounds.
  • A tag line which suggests disruption.
  • Fades to white as editing transitions.
  • Close ups of screaming face showing the fear of the characters.
  • Props being weapons in this case a crossbow and a knife.
  • Scenes of violence and torture.
  • Low angled shots of the monster character types making them look sinister and threatening.
  • Eroded title font.
  • A tag line which suggests genre with the pronoun 'you'.
  • Hand held camera work.
  • The title itself suggests a horror genre implying the audience are under attack.
