Poster Conventions - Inglorious Basterds
The next movie is a war movie and despite belonging to a very different genre, contains many of the for mentioned poster conventions.
Inglorious Basterds
- The title of the film is the largest text on the poster, being written white against a darker background, initially stands out to the audience.
- There is a dominant central image of several main character's from the movie, these men are suited in military attire armed with a knife and older weaponry indicating the film is set around the 1940's. This can also be implied by the dress style of the charcters' jackets and boots.
- The genre of the film is easily understood by the mise-en-scene. There are three dominant characters in the centre wearing military attire all carrying weapons. In the background, brushed over with a red hue, there are two women both carrying pistols, and behind them is a military general. It is easy to to make an educated presumption that this film belongs to the war genre.
- The central image is in fact an image of the iconic celebrity actor that stars in the film. The second most renowned actor that is cast in the film is the biggest, displayed behind all the others on the poster.
- The names of the stars are written in red and white against a white background to make them very noticeable to audiences since playing a large pull factor for audiences to watch the film.
- There is a small production company logo in the bottom left of the poster, showing a universal studios logo.
- There is a tagline at the bottom of the poster written in red.
- There is a reference to the film's director, which is less common in a poster, stating "the new film by Quentin Tarantino", being a large pull factor for the movie.
- There is a small website link at the bottom of the poster.
- Sound logos can be seen at the bottom of the poster.
- There is a billing block at the bottom of the poster.
