Poster Conventions - Conclusion

It is evident, having now done research, that there are several common conventions used frequently when creating the poster for a movie. There are several conventions that are used somewhere among all of the posters I selected to analyse, for example:

• Title of the film - the largest text on the poster
  
• The dominant central image often indicating genre
  
• Mise-en-scene that often indicates the genre of the film

• Names of the celebrities that star in the film
  
• The name of the director 
  
• Reviews/star ratings 
  
• Reference to awards
  
• Reference to source material
  
• Reference to associated merchandise
  
• Production company logos
  
• Billing/credits
  
• Sound logos
  
• Website
  
• Social media links - twitter/facebook
  
• Taglines 
  
• Release date 
  
• Reference to different formats
  
• Reference to other films/producers/writers
